Care & Maintenance

How to Preserve Softness, Shine, and Longevity

Luxury hair is an investment. And like anything refined, it requires intention.

With proper care, your Dolliette unit can last 1–2 years or more while maintaining its softness, movement, and natural appearance.

Here is how to protect your crown.

Step 1: Gentle Detangling Is Non-Negotiable

Before washing or styling:

  • Use a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush

  • Start from the ends and work upward

  • Hold the roots to prevent tension on the lace

For curly textures, finger detangling is best to preserve pattern integrity.

Never brush aggressively. Lace is delicate.

Step 2: Washing Your Unit Properly

How often?
Every 2–3 weeks with regular wear.
More frequently if using heavy styling products.

How to wash:

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water

  2. Apply sulfate-free shampoo

  3. Gently smooth product downward — never rub or twist

  4. Rinse thoroughly

  5. Apply moisturizing conditioner, avoiding lace

For deep hydration, allow conditioner to sit for 10–15 minutes.

Rinse gently.

Luxury hair responds best to gentleness.

Step 3: Drying the Right Way

Air drying is always preferred.

  • Place the wig on a mannequin head or wig stand

  • Allow natural airflow

  • Avoid wringing or twisting

If blow drying:

  • Use low heat

  • Always apply heat protectant

Excessive heat shortens lifespan.

Step 4: Maintaining the Lace

Your lace is the foundation of the melt.

After removal:

  • Gently clean adhesive residue

  • Avoid harsh scraping

  • Store carefully to prevent folding or creasing

HD and Dolliette Silk Lace™ are ultra-thin. Treat them accordingly.

Step 5: Moisture & Shine

Human hair needs hydration.

Use:

  • Lightweight leave-in conditioner

  • Hair oil (mid-shaft to ends only)

  • Curl cream for textured units

Avoid heavy oil near the roots — it can loosen knots over time.

Step 6: Nighttime Care

Never sleep in your wig long-term.

If you must:

  • Braid loosely

  • Use a silk bonnet

  • Avoid friction with cotton pillowcases

Better option: remove your unit and store it properly.

Step 7: Proper Storage

When not wearing:

  • Place on a mannequin head

  • Keep in satin bag or original packaging

  • Store away from direct sunlight

Do not toss it into a drawer.

Luxury deserves structure.

Maintenance by Length

10–16 Inches
Low maintenance. Quick drying. Minimal tangling.

18–24 Inches
Moderate maintenance. Regular detangling required.

26–32 Inches
High maintenance. Requires consistent moisture and care to prevent friction tangles.

The longer the hair, the more intentional your routine must be.

Texture-Specific Care

Straight
Use lightweight serums for shine. Avoid heavy creams.

Body Wave
Scrunch while damp to maintain pattern.

Burmese Curly / Deep Wave
Use curl-defining cream and avoid brushing when dry.

Water + leave-in conditioner refreshes curls beautifully.

When to Replace or Refresh

Signs your unit needs professional refresh:

  • Excess shedding

  • Dry ends

  • Lace thinning

  • Persistent tangling

Sometimes a trim and deep condition restore life. Sometimes it’s time for a new crown.
